Beach

Birthday Beach Trip | Solo Vacation - Ocean City, Maryland

As time goes on, the more I appreciate quality time by myself. It gives me space away from home, work, responsibilities, laundry, cooking, and “normal life” to resent my mind, rest, and often sift through thoughts I need to think and feelings I need to feel. Having solitude and stillness is such an important way for me to maintain balance and because the beach is my happy place, it’s my go-to in times I need to breathe and just be.

Luckily Tyler values this too, so we work hard to make our home and life as balanced and healthy as we can. It’s not always easy, but as long as both of us are making it a priority, we can find peace in our “every day”. But sometimes, inspiration and true rest are found away from the ordinary, so I took myself on a little two-night getaway for my birthday, and it was everything I needed and then some... And actually, I think I ended up staying three nights, lol. The Ravens game was on that Sunday and I wanted to stay and watch it at my cute little place with my own personal cauli-crust pizza and the front door cracked so I could still hear the ocean… so I did. :)

The light was what I like to call unicorn light, where everything’s golden, purple, and blue all at once, with magical hues and dreamy undertones… It was cold but I bundled up and went out on the beach and stayed out for as long as my body would allow, which was pretty much until I couldn’t feel my fingers or my toes. But I couldn’t get enough of the water and watching the waves, per usual… And what made it so fun and entertaining was watching the surfers ride waves all day and evening long until it was dark.

I ate at my favorite spots- Pablo’s Bowls for breakfast and the Longboard Cafe for dinner, and made the most of my time by having no plan, no itinerary, and no schedule, with a sole intention of just letting go.

No matter what season of life you’re in or what your personality is like, I think solo getaways are a really healthy thing to do and would encourage everyone to consider it. :)
