Family Portraits

No First Look

These photos are taken immediately following the ceremony, usually at the same location as the ceremony took place. I will have a list of family members and important guests, taken from your answers to the VIP Questionnaire you completed several weeks prior.

First Look

Family photos are taken just after Bridal Party portraits, which is after the First Look and Bride and Groom’s portraits together. After family photos, the Bridal Party and family will be stowed away while guests arrive for the ceremony.

Tips

  • Be sure to notify family members of where we will be taking pictures. This will ensure that no one is left out. Sometimes someone will forget they’re supposed to stay for group photos and head back to Cocktail Hour, and it can get difficult over the course of the reception to get everyone back together for another group shot. Sending all of your family members an email or group text, letting them know where to be and at what time is most helpful, including this note from me to them. This is something you and I will discuss in our final consultation prior to the wedding day.

Time Allotment: 15 minutes, typically 1-2 minutes per group photo

Important Note: All portraits (Bridal Party and Family) should be finished at least 45 minutes prior to the ceremony, an hour or more if we will be traveling to the ceremony space from where portraits took place. This will make time for me to photograph the ceremony location and details, and for the Bridal Party and Family to hide and relax while guests arrive, which is always about 30 minutes prior to the ceremony start time.
