Rain Plan

Having a backup in case of bad weather is ideal, especially if you’re planning for parts of your day to take place outdoors. But even if the conditions are less than ideal, it doesn’t mean we won’t be able to get incredibly epic shots!

There was a complete hurricane on Sara and Tyler’s wedding day and their outdoor tented dance floor was a total flooded mud pit, but it was one of the most memorable and fun receptions I’ve ever photographed! It kept no one from dancing and letting lose… And we were still able to photograph some pretty awesome portraits.

Your guests will follow your vibe, so as long as the two of you stay positive and open to a slight change of plans if necessary, and we’re covered with a solid Plan B, there’s nothing to worry about!

Tips

  • Always have a covered reception space or a tent on standby.

  • Choose a location with interesting indoor locations with lots of natural window light if possible. I’ll use my flash and still make it look natural, but clean daylight is always ideal.

  • If you have a wedding website, be sure to notify your guests of our plan in case it rains. For example, “in case it rains, our ceremony will take place in the Ballroom rather than in the Courtyard” so they know what to expect on the day of.

  • Be sure to communicate with your vendors about their rain backups, especially your DJ and florist. If it’s drizzling and you still want to move forward with an outdoor ceremony, will your musicians still perform? Make sure everyone is clear on what will happen if it should rain, or if there are heavy winds, snow, etc.

  • Clear umbrellas are always fun to use, and rain boots can look super cute with bridesmaids dresses!

  • Come to terms early on that your hair may get frizzy and your mascara may run. It’s just the way it is with weather like this… and you’ll still look gorgeous - trust me! The weather is something we can’t control, and it adds to the story-telling of your day. :)

  • Don’t let disappointment about the less-than-ideal weather consume your emotions about the day in a negative way. It’s still your wedding day and you’re still marrying the love of your life… We can always go back to the venue for portraits on a pretty sunny day if you want!
