Cake Cutting

This is always a fun part of the reception! One thing I’ve noticed is that couples don’t seem to know how to cut the cake once it’s actually their turn to do so on their wedding day!

Here’s how it’s done…

You’ll take the knife, and holding it together, cut a small slice from the bottom tier of your cake. One cut, then another cut about an inch next to the first. Then, take your knife and turn it, cutting straight down, pushing the slice out and onto your little plate. You can then use your hands or fork and feed each other… or smash! :)

TIPS

  • Stand behind the cake so everyone can see you. (I’ll help direct you if I can before you do so I can get a good shot for you!)

  • If your cake is tall, stand off to the side a bit.

  • Don’t have your back to the guests or me, or else I won’t be able to get a good shot of the cake cutting!

  • Have fun with it! Get smoochy and flirty with each other… maybe share a sip of champagne afterwards too! Take your time and enjoy this moment, don’t rush it...

  • It’s a cute idea to cut a slice for your parents and in-laws after you’ve enjoyed yours.

  • Save your cake top! Though many bakers will now make you a little anniversary cake a year from your wedding cake to enjoy so you’re not eating a 364 day-old frozen piece of cake, though ours tasted really good after a year… :)
